Occultation of UCAC4 257-116038by
(10199) Chariklo.

28th of June 2014

After the discovery of a ring system by Braga-Ribas, F. et al. Nature 13155(2014) and the occultation of a 12th mag star about 2 months ago the upcoming occultation may draw your attention. The object is of enormous interest for research. Occultation astronomy is the most powerful technique to gain further knowledge about this little ring system. The last occultations missed a clear occultation by Chariklo's main body.

On the 28th of June an occultation of a star (15th mag) will take place for southern Africa. It is more or less the same geometry as the last occultation in April. The event will be at 22h25min UTC for central occultation.

Keep in mind, that the occultation has to be observed about 10 minutes before and after, to ensure, that 1) enough data have been collected for noise evaluation of your data set and 2) that possible other rings (undetected up to now) may occult the star.

Updates and more information can also be found at the website of Felipe Braga_Ribas.
